Adaptimmune develops T-cell receptor therapies that help patients fight cancer. To expand its research and manufacturing capability, it commissioned a bespoke facility next to its existing premises and brought in Thomas Halliwell to deliver the full electrical services package.

Much of the building had to meet precise regulations. Staging and quarantine areas, cell processing rooms, a cryo-store and cold stores all needed environments that staff could fully control. Grade B cleanrooms were required for manufacturing allogeneic cell-therapy products.

We stripped out redundant services, then installed a new small power system, a stand-by generator, new LV distribution switchboards and all mains and sub-main cabling.

Internal and external lighting runs on a fully addressable DALI control system. Emergency lighting and accessible WC alarms are supervised through a central battery static inverter. New containment, a full earthing and bonding system, and fibre data and communications backed by UPS complete the package.

Scope of works

“We had expected our assignment to be a particularly tough design brief for any contractor, but Thomas Halliwell rose to the challenge and exceeded all of our expectations. Their attention to detail has been outstanding.”
